Manila - The 3rd Philippines National Conference-Workshop on Payments for Environmental Services (PES) with the theme "PES for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation" was successfully organized last week (August 12-13, 2010).

Attending the two-day event were more than 135 participants from all over the country representing the academes, research communities, local government units, NGOs and private sectors. Quite a big turn-out, considering the original target audience was only 100 participants!

The first day morning sessions were devoted to the overview of PES in the international as well as the national arena. Basics of climate change and it's impacts on ES as well as the essentials of PES were also discussed. The afternoon sessions revolved around the challenges and opportunities of the PES experiences in fisheries and coastal resources management, watershed management, forest and biodiversity conservation, ecotourism development and scenic beauty preservation.

The second day morning sessions were dedicated to discussions on policy and institutional mechanisms. Simultaneous workshop sessions were held in the afternoon on policy and research & development needs to achieve the expected workshop outputs, specifically coming up with the necessary policy reforms, framework for institutionalizing PES, and research agendas for PES in the country.

The outputs (i.e., the powerpoint presentations) of the event are now available for download. Click the links below:
