2010
The Philippines Technical Working Group on Payments for Environmental Services (PES TWG) is organizing the Third PES Conference Workshop on August 12 – 13, 2010 in Metro Manila, Philippines. You are invited to submit proposal for presentations. Download.
The concept of payments for environmental services (PES) is becoming a well-accepted strategy to address the country’s environmental and poverty conditions. Because of this, the PES-TWG was formed to provide technical assistance to PES-like mechanism sites in the country as well as to provide venues for the institutionalization and mainstreaming of PES in the Philippines. The PES TWG is composed of 10 organizations from the NGO and government sectors.
This year, to effectively facilitate exchanges of information and ideas, the PES TWG is organizing the 3rd PES Conference Workshop on August 12 – 13, 2010 in Metro Manila, Philippines. Participants to this event are officers and representatives of different government executive and legislative agencies, NGOs, financing/donor institutions, corporate organizations and the academe.
Themed “PES for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation”, the event aims to assess how PES can be utilized as a financial instrument to promote and work toward climate change mitigation and adaptation through (a) the demonstration of PES as a tool for conservation and poverty reduction, and (b) the identification of gaps on information, policy and implementation of PES in the Philippines.
On this note, we are pleased to invite your organization to submit a 2-page brief on your PES or PES-like project for the possibility of presenting your experience(s) at the 3rd PES Conference Workshop. The PES-+TWG will evaluate the content of the papers submitted. Projects selected shall be rewarded with 20-minute presentation time and an article inclusion in the PES Conference-Workshop Publication. Presenter/writer will receive a round trip ticket and free meals with hotel accommodations during the 3rd PES Conference Workshop.
Please see the provisional program here and download the project information guide here. Deadline for submission of the project brief is on 21 June 2010, via email to e.abasolo@irri.org. Should you have questions and clarifications, please feel free to communicate with the following:
