RUPES Welcomes Collaboration between ICRAF-SEA and MAFF

Bookmark and Share |

A potential collaboration between the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF-SEA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Cambodia, is now being discussed to explore ways agroforestry and rewards for environmental service mechanisms can support the preparation and implementation of the Cambodia’s National Action Plan to combat land degradation and other key environmental concerns.

“The idea of having collaboration between ICRAF and MAFF is very much welcome,” said Dr. Jess Fernandez, SEANAFE Project Coordinator, representing ICRAF-SEA.

“And we need to start by drafting a memorandum of understanding or agreement that would be beneficial for both organizations.”

According to Beria Leimona, RUPES Project Coordinator, the collaboration between RUPES’s host organization and the government of Cambodia will give a way for further exploring potential implementation of RUPES concepts in Cambodia.

RUPES has actually initiated a move towards that direction by contributing in a workshop organized by SEANAFE and Cambodian government back in November last year.

Last week, RUPES launched the RUPES booklet in Khmer.

“We expect that the publication can help widespread information about RUPES within the country,” said Beria Leimona.
