In pursuance of the Philippine Climate Change Act of 2009 and in celebration of the International Year of Biodiversity, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are jointly organizing an International Conference on Biodiversity and Climate Change, with the collaboration of DIVERSITAS, ASEAN Center for biodiversity (ACB), World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Commission on Climate Change (CCC), Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB), Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD) and the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD).
The Conference will be held in Manila, the Philippines on November 17-19, 2010. It will serve as a venue for the sharing of knowledge and information on the two-way interactions of biodiversity and climate change and for identifying strategies and actions to conserve biodiversity focusing on the Asia Pacific Region.
The objectives of the Conference are to:
- Discuss and exchange research findings on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change, status of biodiversity, effects of climate change on biodiversity, and climate change mitigation and adaptation;
- Identify research gaps and conceptualize collaborative research undertakings on biodiversity and climate change;
- Identify strategies for mitigation and adaptation, including education and advocacy.
- Link potential donors, and research experts and educators for the conduct of future research and implementation of programs on biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
